What’s the Ability of Ash?

Passive: Marked for Death - Ash's map will reveal the location of recent deathboxes and marks any surviving attackers. May only be used once per deathbox.

Tactical: Arc Snare - Ash will throw a spinning snare that damages the first enemy who gets too close to it. This ability has a cooldown period of 24 seconds.

Ultimate: Phase Breach - Ash may open a one-way portal to a targeted location. The portal is also usable by allies and enemies. This ability is active for 15 seconds and then has a cooldown period of 120 seconds.

How to Play Well With Ash in Apex Legends

As a close-range specialist, Ash is at her best when she's ambushing and pushing on an enemy squad. Her skill set lends itself to having a similar mindset to playing Octane, in that you're constantly spearheading your squad's offensive and encouraging forward momentum at a breakneck pace towards the next fight. This makes her a dangerous threat, but also quite easy to punish.

Similar to Wraith's Dimensional Rift, Ash's Phase Breach makes a loud sound when it's used. And unlike Wraith's ultimate ability, Ash's is one-way so there's no way for her to retreat if enemies notice that sound and react in time for things to go sideways for her. Any legend that can apply damage to a spot or deny an area can punish an Ash going through her Phase Breach--that means Gibraltar, Bangalore, Caustic, Wattson, Crypto, Rampart, Horizon, Fuse, and Valkyrie can all counter her. Heck, even a well-placed thermite grenade can do so.

Ash works best when flanking someone as opposed to straight up engagements. That’s not to say she can’t be aggressively played, she does very well there as well. I feel in order to be successful with her you need to have a well rounded kit that doesn’t lean too heavily in either direction. You don’t want guns that are too close range oriented but you don’t want to run dual snipers with her.

Ash’s passive ability Marked For Death lets her scan death boxes to track their killers. Using Marked For Death pings the location of each surviving squad member (If none are still living, the game will inform players they’ve all died). It’s important to note that this works on friendly death boxes too, which can help Ash to pinpoint the location of a nearby squad. Keep in mind that enemies will be warned that they have been located, much like players are informed when they’re picked up by Bloodhound scans. Still, this is a great passive ability, leagues above some of the other legends.
