Apex Legends Heirlooms are an even rarer type of cosmetic than legendaries, but do you know how to unlock them? If you want to figure out the answer, just follow this short article.
When opening crates in-game, you've most likely never come across Apex Legends heirlooms. In fact, you’re more likely to find those favourite socks of yours that you lost two years ago in the laundrette. Apex Legends heirlooms are really just that hard to find. Luckily they're cosmetic-only, and consist of item sets that afford specific characters with new aesthetics. Heirlooms, what they are and why they matter so much are a little tricky to understand, so follow along with our guide as we list everything we currently know about heirlooms in Apex Legends.
When the game launched last year, only one Heirloom set existed for Wraith. But the Apex developer added three more sets for Bloodhound, Lifeline, and Pathfinder during limited-time events. With each Heirloom set, players will receive three items for the respective legend. The sets include an intro quip, a melee weapon skin, and a banner pose.Items from Heirloom Sets are considered one step above the legendary loot items, and they’re so rare that they don’t even show up on the skins list until they’re unlocked. Full sets or individual items cannot be crafted or purchased.
You can only obtain the Heirloom Set by opening Apex Packs. This system is being overhauled once the System Override Collection Event starts on March 3rd! We’re changing up the Heirloom system to make it easier for you to acquire the heirloom you want. Instead of an entire Heirloom set dropping at once, you’ll now receive Heirloom shards. You can then use those shards to pick the exact Heirloom set you’d like. The shards will have the same drop rate as the previous system, so that after 500 Apex Packs, you will have enough Heirloom Shards to obtain an Heirloom set from the Heirloom shop. And don’t worry, your existing progress towards the 500 Apex Packs will carry over with the switch. Remember that once a player owns all of the Heirloom sets, the player will not be eligible to receive more shards until more Heirloom Sets are added to the game.
You can also get the butterfly knife through Heirloom Shards. Apex Legends has replaced direct Heirloom drops with these shards, allowing players to choose which Heirloom set they want the most. Players are guaranteed enough shards to trade in for an Heirloom set after opening a whopping 500 packs, which are sold in sets of ten for 7,000 Apex Coins. If you've been hoarding packs, this new system will also apply to those bought under the old set of rules. You can unlock Octane's Heirloom item with this shard-trading system before, during, or even after the System Override Event. You have plenty of time to start collecting.
