While the DLC will be free for PC and PS4 players, the players will need to already have The Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Edition if they want to play the new DLC.

Heavensward is the first of Final Fantasy XVI’s three expansion. It was initially release in 2015.
In Heavensward, players play as the Warrior of Light, journeying to Ishgard, a city-state of Eorzea built high in snow-covered mountains. The gates to Ishgard were previously sealed. There, you’ll work to end the thousand-year conflict —the Dragonsong War— between the Ishgard theocracy and the dragon horde of Dravania.
Heavensward extends the game by a good 50-70 hours. Heavensward lifts the Final Fantasy XIV level cap to 60 and adds new areas to the existing game. Heavensward introduces three new advanced classes: Dark Knight, Machinist and Astrologian, all of which start out at level thirty, eighteen dungeons and six raids scattered through a bundle new new zones. Heavensward also adds flying mounts and a new playable race (the Au Ra, who have dragon-like horns).
