PUBG Lite Beta Is Now Live and Tests A Free-To-Play Version of The Game In Thailand
Since PUBG is extremely heavy and doesn't run properly on even mid-range PCs, the game developer PUBG Corp. has announced a lighter version of the PUBG PC game. Titled PUBG Lite.PUBG Corp. says PUBG Lite is designed for "players in areas where the core game's required specifications are more difficult to achieve due to the hardware available." This free-to-play version is therefore playable on lower-spec PCs. Now the free-to-play edition of PUBG is in beta in Thailand. Keep on reading for further details of the free-to-play edition.
PUBG PC, on the other hand, is not free to play and needs good specifications for smooth gameplay. The Lite version will be a standalone game, and the company stated that there would be a dedicated team for the development of the game. The company says that there will be a separate, dedicated dev team for the free version that will work on exclusive content, including maps and other features that will eventually trickle down from the paid game.
For now, PUBG Lite’ s beta will only feature Erangel, the original PUBG map, along with Solo / Duo / Squad options. The beta is only available in Thailand, which the company will be using as a test case to decide whether to expand PUBG Lite to more regions in the future.
So far, the lite version of the game is currently being tested in Thailand. According to a blog post on the company’s official website from its developers, PUBG Lite will soon make it to other countries. However, it hasn’t mentioned any particular date for the launch.
With PUBG Lite, Tencent is looking to take on Fortnite. Despite coming to the battle royale genre later than PUBG’s pioneering efforts, Fortnite has become an international cultural sensation due to its low barrier of entry and the fact that the game can be played on basically any device.
“Our goal for PUBG LITE is simple: Deliver the PLAYERUNKNOWN’ S BATTLEGROUNDS experience to players in areas where the core game’s required specifications are more difficult to achieve due to the hardware available. To this end, the PUBG LITE team has focused on balancing lower hardware requirements, without compromising on our quality standards. The end result is a build that is playable even on computers and laptops utilising integrated graphics”, Tencent stated on its website.
