As early as November last year, PUBG Company stated that it would bring PUBG mobile games back to the Indian market, but it has been unable to disclose the exact timetable for a long time. Last month, PUBG Mobile India uploaded a video on the official YouTube channel, suggesting that the game is about to return to India. In September last year, PUBG Mobile, which was published in India by Chinese internet giant Tencent, was banned along with other Chinese apps after a prolonged border standoff between the neighbours. Following the ban, PUBG Corp, the subsidiary of Krafton, severed ties with Tencent for India.
 
The new title, which uses the color scheme of the Indian flag and is largely a replica of PUBG Mobile, will offer “a world class AAA multiplayer” and free-to-play gaming experience on mobile devices, it said. The developer said it will open pre-registration for Battlegrounds Mobile India “soon” ahead of its launch in the country, but didn’t share a specific date. The rebranded PUBG Mobile has been exclusively developed for the world’s second-largest internet market, Krafton said.
 
Krafton said in its announcement that it will work with partners to build an esports ecosystem and also provide India-exclusive events. Given the recent investment in India-based Nodwin Gaming, it is highly likely that it will help Krafton with these endeavors.
 
In a press statement, Krafton has said that the “BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA will release with exclusive in-game events like outfits and features and will have its own esports ecosystem with tournaments and leagues.” The game will be available to play for free on smartphones. This is a battle royale game, similar to PUBG Mobile.
 
So the reveal of the “new” game has been announced under a whole new title and banner. Interestingly, there is also a short trailer that Battlegrounds Mobile India came up with, in addition to the game’s reveal announcement. The trailer does not reveal much, but it will make PUBG Mobile players reminisce their much-loved game. That is because it shows the players jumping off a plane and into the battle arena. The parachutes are the same, and the character outfits are the same, and so is the background score on the video. It is the music that PUBG Mobile players will fondly recollect listening to while waiting for the game to load.
