NBA 2K25 will see changes to two core MyPLAYER systemsBadges and Takeovers. This directly impacts performance, and the team has published a short blog where they go into more depth about the tweaks and improvements they've made to both modes in this version of the game. NBA 2K25's New Badge System Changes
New Takeover System: NBA 2K25 introduces a new Takeover system with 72 Takeovers and 14 Takeover abilities. Each Takeover targets a different attribute and has five tiers, from Level 1 when a player is on form, to Level 5 when they're on fire. As players perform well on the court, the Takeover meter fills up, gradually increasing the targeted attribute as the player progresses through five tiers. Once a player reaches Level 5, their Takeover ability automatically turns on, and if used correctly, can make them the most powerful player on the court in a short period.
MyPLAYER Badge Improvements: With 40 badges in NBA 2K25, these badges are more impactful than ever before, and how much they contribute to your MyPLAYER build will depend on your base stats and on-court actions. Every badge is now equally valuable and desirable. Badge progression is designed to match a player's actions on the courtthe more a player uses a badge, the faster it will level up. The NBA 2K25 level-up system will expand with new badge tiers above the Hall of Fame, called Legends. Also new this year are Badge Lifters, which can elevate individual badges to higher tiers, and Cap Busters, which can increase attribute ratings above the maximum potential "cap" set at build creation. Badge Perks and Performance Multipliers will also receive updated perks.
NBA 2K25 Badge System Explained
The badge system in NBA 2K25 has been streamlined from 77 badges in NBA 2K24 to 40 badges. Essentially, the functionality is largely the same, as these badges dictate your MyPlayer's style of play on the court.
Badges are divided into two types: Level 1 and Level 2. Level 1 badges are more powerful and more difficult to obtain. In terms of badge levels, in addition to the Hall of Fame, there is a brand new level called Legend. This level has extremely high attribute requirements, but the rewards it provides are also the largest on the court.
The categories are also limited to inside scoring, rebounding, outside scoring, organization, general offense, all-around, and defense.
